Scooter Rider Suffers Major Injuries after Hit by SUV on South Melrose Drive in Vista

 
VISTA, CA (October 17, 2022) – A woman suffered serious injuries in a scooter accident on South Melrose Drive in Vista on Thursday evening, October 13.
 
Around 8:00 p.m., deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Vista station were called to 1600 block of South Melrose Drive. Upon arrival, they learned the scooter rider was struck while crossing the entrance of a bank parking lot just as a motorist in a Mitsubishi Outlander was exiting.
 
The victim was run over and dragged a short distance until the driver was able to stop.
 
Firefighters freed the woman who was trapped underneath the SUV. Paramedics then took the victim to a hospital with several major but non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factor into the crash, which remains under investigation.
 
When riding a scooter, always wear a helmet. Avoid riding scooters on rough terrain or uneven surfaces. Also, avoid riding at night or when it is harder for motorists to see you. Lastly, Do not drive at excessive speeds, and do not dart between lanes in traffic.
