Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Semi on Wible Road in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 28, 2024) – A bicyclist was fatally struck by a semi truck at Wible Road and Planz Road in Bakersfield on Friday night.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 6:00 p.m. on April 26. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the bicyclist was heading west on Planz Road, while the semi truck was traveling north of Wible Road.
 
For unknown reasons, the semi truck struck the bicyclist at the intersection.
 
First responders pronounced the male bicyclist dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the semi truck initially fled the scene, but later returned after an eyewitness advised him of the crash.
 
Alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
