1 Person Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Big Rig on 5 Freeway in Camp Pendleton

 
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (April 29, 2024) — One person died after a car crashed into a semi-truck on the 5 Freeway near Cockleburr Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened around 9:00 p.m. Thursday. For an unknown reason, a driver was speeding along the southbound lanes. Subsequently, the sedan driver lost control and struck a semi-truck on the right-hand side of the road.
 
Minutes later, law enforcement saw visible smoke from the crash site and responded. Upon arriving, they confirmed one person deceased. Officials did not release that individual’s name.
 
At this time, local authorities need any witness’s help identifying the cause. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
