Fatal Oakland Encampment Fire near Wood Street

 
OAKLAND, CA (April 7, 2022) – One person was killed in a fiery accident near Wood Street and 26th Street in Oakland on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 1:25 p.m. on April 5. According to the Oakland Fire Department, a fire broke out among an encampment of vehicles parked on Caltrans property.
 
When firefighters arrived on scene, three RVs, a flatbed truck and two cars were engulfed in flames.
 
People at the scene initially told firefighters that someone was trapped in an RV. The fire was contained by 2:00 p.m., but firefighters found one fatality inside in one of the RVs.
 
At this time, the identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
