Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Drunk Driver After Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in Sunnyvale

 
SUNNYVALE, CA (May 6, 2024) — A woman hit by a DUI driver died following a multi-car accident on Highway 101 near Mathilda Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash first happened around 1:27 a.m. on Sunday. For an unknown reasons, a woman driving at a high rate of speed rear-ended another vehicle. Subsequently, the female driver pulled over to the shoulder and started walking on the highway.
 
Moments later, an oncoming vehicle, driven by an alleged 23-year-old DUI driver, struck her on the highway.
 
Tragically, the woman hit by the DUI driver died from her injuries. Officials have not released her name. The 23-year-old stayed on site and police arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.
