Hit-and-Run Suspect Fatally Strikes Father and Dog in Compton

 
COMPTON, CA (August 28, 2023) – Jaime Gomez and his dog were killed in a hit-and-run crash in Compton Thursday evening on August 17.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 9:00 p.m. at East McMillan Street and East Pine Street. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Gomez was walking his dog Hammer when they were struck by a vehicle.
 
The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the crash.
 
Gomez died instantly and the dog had to be put down the following morning.
 
The victim’s son, Alejandro Gomez, runs a tobacco shop in the area and said his father was hit on his way back to the store. They were just a few steps away from the sidewalk, he said.
 
Gomez’ family is hoping the public will help authorities track down the driver responsible.
