Sailor John Deltoro Dies in Rollover Accident on 8 Freeway in Jacumba

 
JACUMBA, CA (June 7, 2022) – John Deltoro was killed in a rollover accident on 8 Freeway in Jacumba on Friday morning, June 3.
 
The accident happened just before 10:00 a.m. near Carrizo Gorge Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Deltoro and four others were returning from training at Camp Billy Machen.
 
They were riding in a van when the vehicle veered off the westbound side freeway. The van then struck a boulder and overturned.
 
29-year-old Deltoro suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was an Electronics Technician 2nd Class, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
Paramedics airlifted four others to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries and transported a fourth patient with moderately serious trauma by ground ambulance. Two of the patients were in critical condition.
 
At this time, the U.S. Navy and the CHP are investigating the cause of the crash.
