Pedestrian Dies after Struck by At Least Two Vehicles on 5 Freeway in Chula Vista

 
CHULA VISTA, CA (April 28, 2024) – Cesar Pineda was killed in a pedestrian accident in Chula Vista early Saturday morning on April 20.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:15 a.m. on 5 Freeway near Palomar Street. According to the San Diego Police Department, a vehicle struck Pineda along the northbound side of the freeway.
 
A second car may have also hit him prior to the arrival of emergency-services personnel.
 
Pineda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 35-year-old San Diego resident, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
