Pedestrian Killed, Two Arrested in DUI Crash on 5 Freeway near J Street [San Diego, CA]

Double DUI Crash on 5 Freeway in San Diego Kills 20-Year-Old Man

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 28, 2024) – A pedestrian was killed in a DUI crash on 5 Freeway in San Diego late Saturday evening on April 20.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:10 p.m. just north of J Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic southbound on the freeway when he crashed in unclear circumstances. He then exited his car and was standing in the traffic lanes.
 
While standing in traffic lanes, a Ford Escape driven by a 44-year-old man, struck him and his Honda.
 
The impact thrown him into the traffic lanes. Shortly after, a silver Honda Accord, driven by a 36-year-old woman, also struck him.
 
A black Ford Bronco, driven by a 34-year-old woman, then hit the Escape.
 
The unidentified man driving the Honda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Both drivers of Escape and Bronco were found to be driving under the influence and were arrested for various DUI-related charges. They were both booked into San Diego county jails.

At this time, an investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
