Off-Duty San Diego Police Officer Sustains Injuries after Struck by Car while Clearing Tires on 5 Freeway in Oceanside

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (May 4, 2022) – An off-duty San Diego police officer sustained injuries in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in Oceanside on Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 6:00 a.m. on April 29 at Highway 76. CHP officials said semi truck, driven by a 47-year-old Granada Hills resident, was traveling south on 5 Freeway when two of its tires dislodged and rolled into traffic lanes.
 
The tires caused a traffic back-up. The officer who was in her personal vehicle pulled over and attempted to remove them from the road.
 
Moments later, a 22-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita man driving a BMW struck the officer.
 
Responding paramedics transported the officer to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident. They did not suspect alcohol or drugs as a factor. They asked anyone with information about the case to call them at 760-643-3400.
