Man Initially Involved in Hit-and-Run Crash Fatally Struck by Semi on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 12, 2022) – A man died in a pedestrian hit-and-run on Highway 99 in Bakersfield, early Tuesday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened a little after 2:00 a.m. on January 11, just north of Merle Haggard Drive. According to California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2000 Plymouth Voyager when he collided with two other vehicles.
 
After the initial crash, the man then fled the scene on foot, crossed the center barrier wall onto south Highway 99, when a tractor/semi-trailer combination struck him.
 
The man died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
Alcohol or drugs are suspected to be a factor in this crash, which remains under investigation. CHP officials asked anyone with further information to call them at 661-396-6600.
