Woman Sustains Possible Spinal Injury after Hit by Car on Highway 99 West in Corning

 
CORNING, CA (July 13, 2022) – A 41-year-old woman sustained critical injuries in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 West in Corning on Saturday evening.
 
The accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. on July 9. According to the Corning Police Department, the 23-year-old woman was pushing a shopping cart near the west edge of the 900 block of Highway 99 West.
 
For unknown reasons, she veered into the southbound traffic lane and a black Kia Forte struck traveling at 35 mph struck her.
 
The 23-year-old driver was unable to avoid hitting the woman. The victim then went over the hood and hit the passenger side of the windshield before landing on the edge of the road.
 
Paramedics rushed the woman to a hospital, where she underwent surgery. Police said she sustained a severe cut to her right buttock, a cut to her head and possible spinal injuries. She is in critical condition.
 
The driver was not arrested.
 
An investigation into this accident is ongoing.
