Police Arrest Drunk Driver after Causing Wrong-Way Crash on 5 Freeway in Carlsbad Seriously Injuring Two People

 
CARLSBAD, CA (December 5, 2023) – Two people were seriously injured in a DUI wrong-way crash on 5 Freeway in Carlsbad early Friday morning on December 1.
 
The crash happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. near Cannon Road, just south of Agua Hedionda Lagoon. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 35-year-old man was driving an Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck the wrong way when he collided head-on into an oncoming Audi sedan.
 
As a result, the 20-year-old male driver of the Audi and his 19-year-old female passenger suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The driver of the Dodge only sustained minor injuries. Officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
