George Pitman Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 46 [Shandon, CA]

Bolinas Man Suffers Critical Injuries after Crash with Hit-and-Run Driver in Shandon

 
SHANDON, CA (December 5, 2023) – George Pitman suffered critical injuries in hit-and-run crash in Shandon Friday morning on December 1.
 
The crash happened around 5:10 a.m. on Highway 46 near the Shandon Rest Area. According to the California Highway Patrol, Pitman was traveling eastbound in a 2018 Nissan 2500NV transit van when a semi truck pulling a trailer pulled out of the rest area, directly in front of the van.

Pitman was unable to avoid the truck and hit the left-rear of the trailer.

After the crash, the driver of the truck fled the scene, heading westbound on Highway 46.

Pitman, a 33-year-old Bolinas resident, suffered major injuries. He was airlifted to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. He was admitted for a broken femur and severe head trauma and is currently listed as in critical condition.

It is unknown if the truck driver was under the influence or distracted by electronic devices at the time of the crash.
