Driver of Stolen SUV Dies after Crash with Another Car on Foothill Boulevard in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (October 4, 2023) – A 34-year-old Castro Valley man died in a stolen vehicle crash at Foothill Boulevard and Church Street in East Oakland on Sunday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 5:44 p.m. on October 1. According to the Oakland Police Department, the man was driving a stolen 2020 Infiniti QX60 westbound on Foothill Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop for a red light. The SUV then collided with a car that had the green light and was heading north on Church Street.
 
As a result of the crash, the man driving the stolen SUV died at the hospital.
 
Police said the SUV had been reported stolen out of Hayward, but did not say when.
 
The driver of the other car was unharmed.
 
Police traffic investigators were working to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in what happened. They asked anyone with information to call them at 510-777-8570.
