Man Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 1 and River Street

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (January 26, 2023) — A man died due to injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident on Highway 1 on Friday, January 20.
 
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, emergency personnel rushed to the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street at about 6:15 a.m.
 
Police said a car moving northbound on Highway 1 at the intersection of River Street struck the man crossing the street. The pedestrian succumbed to sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
 
Officers described the victim as a 44-year-old man from Santa Cruz County. His identity is not yet available at the moment, pending next of kin notification.
 
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Impairment did not play a role in the crash. There had been no arrests reported.
