DUI Driver Causes Deadly Crash on 10 Freeway in Palm Desert

 
PALM DESERT, CA (October 8, 2023) – A man was killed in a DUI crash on 10 Freeway in Palm Desert early Saturday morning on October 7.
 
The fatal crash happened around 12:37 a.m. near Washington Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Camry collided with a double big-rig while they were both traveling eastbound on the freeway. The impact caused the Toyota to block one of the freeway lanes.
 
Around the same time, CHP officers were responding to a different crash on eastbound 10 Freeway and avoided crashing into the Toyota. However, another vehicle close behind the CHP unit was unable to maneuver around it and crashed into the Toyota.
 
The 24-year-old man in that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Officers arrested the male driver of the Toyota on suspicion of driving under the influence and murder.
 
It was unclear if the occupant of the big rig suffered any injuries.
 
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
