Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Semi Truck while Walking Outside Marked Crosswalk on Auburn Boulevard in North Highlands

 
NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA (August 9, 2023) – A man was hit and killed by a semi truck on Auburn Boulevard in North Highlands Monday on August 7.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly after noon just south of Myrtle Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 60-year-old male pedestrian was walking west on Auburn Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk.
 
At the same time, a 51-year-old Sacramento man was driving a Freightliner truck and was making a right turn onto Auburn when he struck the pedestrian.
 
First responders rushed the pedestrian to Mercy San Juan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
 
The man driving the Freightliner was taken to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries.
 
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
