Bernabe Gacia Dies after Colliding Head-On with Big Rig on Stockdale Highway near Highway 43

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 21, 2022) – Bernabe Lopez Garcia was killed in a head-on accident on Stockdale Highway in Bakersfield early Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 1:47 a.m. on March 18 just west of Highway 43. According to the CHP, Garcia was driving a 2004 Chevrolet westbound on Stockdale Highway when he veered into the eastbound lanes for unknown reasons. He then collided head-on with a 2017 Kenworth big rig that was heading eastbound.
 
As a result of the crash, Garcia suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 24-year-old Arvin resident, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
 
Paramedics rushed the lone passenger in the Chevrolet to Kern Medical for the treatment of major injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the big rig had minor injuries and cooperated with officials.
 
The CHP said alcohol was suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
