Ana Ortega Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Clinton Avenue and Bethel Avenue
FRESNO, CA (April 20, 2023) — Ana Ortega died in a pedestrian accident on Clinton Avenue and Bethel Avenue.
According to the Fresno County coroner, 51-year-old Ortega passed away at the scene of the crash. For an unknown reason, an off-duty Clovis police officer was driving a pickup truck when he struck Ortega who was walking her dog in the opposite direction.
The unidentified officer pulled over and performed CPR until paramedics arrived around 8:00 a.m. However, rescue efforts fell short, and Ortega perished at the scene. Her dog survived the crash and was brought to Fresno County’s SPCA with major injuries.
Authorities do not suspect impairment or speed to have played a role, but they are looking into distracted driving as a possibility.
If anyone has more information that can help CHP investigators, please call their department.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Ana Ortega.
