8-Year-Old Alexander Cooper Dies, 9-Year-Old Jasmine Cooper Hurt After Being Hit by Car on Highway 50 Accident near 65th Street

SACRAMENTO, CA (February 15, 2024)Alexander Cooper died after a driver struck him and his sister on Highway 50 near 65th Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly accident happened around 4:35 p.m. Sunday. After experiencing a flat tire, Yari Quirarte decided to get her family off the road, to the side of the freeway lanes, to avoid fast-moving cars. However, in an attempt to keep her 9-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son safe, the accident happened.

Subsequently, a 30-year-old man in a westbound Ford, moving at an unknown speed in the fast lane, tried avoiding the disabled black Toyota. However, the Ford struck Alexander Cooper and Jasmine Cooper in the center median.

Tragically, Alexander passed away on impact. His sister, Jasmine, sought care at UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. Neither the Ford driver nor Yari Quirarte reported any injuries.
