OAKLAND, CA (May 17, 2023) — Three people were injured after a BART train and a pickup truck crashed near 8th Street and the Fruitville Station.
 
According to the BART Transit Agency, the accident happened around 11:35 p.m. Monday. For an unknown reason, a pickup truck traveling on East 8th Street crashed onto the tracks between the Fruitvale and Lake Merritt stations. Subsequently, a northbound BART train collided with the pickup.
 
The train operator, the pickup truck driver and one of the 45 passengers on board the train reported injuries of unknown severities.
 
Soon after, Oakland police officers conducted a field sobriety test on the driver to determine if impairment played a factor. However, officials have not released the ultimate cause of the crash but will dive into the details further.
