Fatal Wrong-Way Collision Burst Into Flames on Highway 101 in Humboldt County

 
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (January 23, 2024) — Three people died in a fiery wrong-way accident on Highway 101 near Metropolitan Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly 2-car crash happened Sunday around 10:43 p.m. For unknown reasons, a driver of a 2015 Toyota Tacoma was heading northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway. Subsequently, the pickup crashed into a 2010 Mercedes-Benz C300, occupied by two individuals.
 
Soon after, CHP Humboldt Communication Center received word of the crash and responded to the scene to find both vehicles engulfed in flames and blocking the road. In addition, they found a deceased driver in the Toyota and two deceased individuals in the Mercedes. All three have yet to be identified by the Humboldt County Coroner.
 
At this time, officials have not released the cause of the accident or when the Toyota began traveling in the wrong direction. However, if anyone has insight into this deadly accident, please call 707-822-5981.
