Head-On Crash on Highway 1 in Las Cruces Leaves 1 in Critical Condition
LAS CRUCES, CA (April 15, 2023) – Two people were injured in a head-on accident on Highway 1 in Las Cruces Thursday morning on April 13.
The accident happened around 5:40 a.m., about a mile west of Highway 101. According to the California Highway Patrol, three vehicles collided head-on in unclear circumstances.
As a result, two people suffered injuries, one of them was in critical condition.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department and other agencies responded to the scene to assist.
A helicopter landed on the highway to pick up the critically injured patient and fly them to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The CHP temporarily closed Highway 1 in both directions for the helicopter landing. The highway was reopened at 8:00 a.m., according to Caltrans.
The cause of the crash and factors involved are still under investigation.
