16-Year-Old Dies in Overturned Car Accident on 5 Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 22, 2022) — A 16-year-old girl died in an overturned car crash on the 5 Freeway near Rosecrans Street on Friday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car accident happened around 1:45 p.m. For unknown reasons, a 53-year-old Kansas woman driving a Nissan SUV lost control of the vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle veered off the roadway and overturned.
 
At some point during the crash, a 16-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and sustained major injuries.
 
Soon after, paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the 16-year-old to a trauma center where doctors pronounced her dead. Authorities have not released her name pending notification of next of kin.
 
As for the passengers, two people suffered only minor injuries.
 
At this time, authorities have not identified the leading cause of the accident or if the teen was wearing her seatbelt at the time. However, if anyone has more information to share, please call the CHP.
