Pedestrian Dies in Early Morning Crash on 80 Freeway in Berkeley

 
BERKELEY, CA (August 22, 2022) – One person was killed in a pedestrian accident on 80 Freeway in Berkeley early Friday morning, August 19.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:53 a.m. just west of the Berkeley Curve, approaching the Bay Bridge toll plaza. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was walking within the westbound lanes of 80 Freeway when a vehicle struck them.
 
The driver called 911, remained at the scene and spoke with officers.
 
First responders attempted saving the pedestrian, but the victim died at the scene.
 
The crash left the HOV carpool lane blocked completely, and traffic was severely affected. The CHP cleared the scene about 7:40 a.m. but residual traffic delays continued to be lengthy through most of the morning.
 
At this time, an investigating is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
