38-Year-Old Brandon Cleland Identified as Driver Killed in Willits Head-On Accident

 
WILLITS, CA (October 8, 2021) – Authorities identified 38-year-old Brandon Duane Cleland of Potter Valley as the driver killed in a head-on accident on Highway 20, Monday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on September 27, at about 4:00 p.m. As per reports, Cleland was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup while towing another 2001 Dodge Ram pickup on a flatbed trailer.
 
For reasons still under investigation, the eastbound pickup truck lost control and crossed over the double yellow lines. Then, the pickup collided head-on with a westbound box truck near Marina Drive.
 
Cleland was reportedly not secured in a seatbelt and sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders later pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old driver of the box truck sustained minor injuries. Paramedics transported him to Adventist Health Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits for precautionary measures.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
