Passenger Dies after Wrong-Way Driver Causes Crash at Cawston and Devonshire Avenues

 
HEMET, CA (February 11, 2023) – A woman was killed in a wrong-way accident at Cawston Avenue and Devonshire Avenue in Hemet on Monday afternoon.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:41 p.m. on February. According to the Hemet Police Department, a gray Toyota Prius was speeding northbound when it shifted into the southbound lanes. While traveling the wrong way, it collided head-on into a black Ford Escape which was heading southbound on Cawston. The impact caused the Prius to catch fire.
 
Hemet firefighters extinguished the fire and treated three people, a man driving the Prius, a male driver of the Escape and his female passenger.
 
Paramedics then took all three patients to a hospital, where the passenger later succumbed to her injuries.
 
Based on evidence located at the scene, it is believed that the speed of the Prius is very likely to be a factor in the crash. Police urged witnesses to can contact Cpl. Tim McGinnis at 951-765-2400.
