Police Arrest Gabriel Derian for DUI after Crash in Menifee that Killed 41-Year-Old Woman

MENIFEE, CA (October 3, 2022) – A woman died and police arrested Gabriel Derian for DUI after a traffic collision at a Menifee intersection on Tuesday, September 27.

The collision happened just after 3:00 p.m. at Berea Road and Newport Road. According to the Menifee Police Department, the 41-year-old suspect from Menifee was driving a Ford SUV westbound on Newport Road at an unknown speed and ignored a red traffic signal, driving straight into the intersection.

He then broadsided a BMW SUV, driven by the 41-year-old Menifee woman. The woman was heading south on Berea Road and entered the intersection on a green light when the crash occurred.

The impact caused the BMW to strike a Chrysler sedan, whose 55-year-old female driver, also from Menifee, was waiting to make an eastbound turn onto Newport Road from Berea Road.

As a result, both the woman in the BMW and Derian suffered critical injuries.

Firefighters freed the woman from the smashed vehicle and rushed her to a regional trauma center, where she remained in intensive care until her death.

Derian was already in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the woman driving the Chrysler suffered minor injuries.

Police later arrested Derian on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and DUI resulting in great bodily injury.

An investigation is ongoing.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
