Fiery Crash on 580 Freeway in Oakland Kills 1 Driver and Badly Injures Another

 
OAKLAND, CA (September 23, 2023) – A woman was killed in a fiery two-vehicle accident on 580 Freeway in Oakland Tuesday morning on September 19.
 
The fatal accident happened around 11:00 a.m. on 580 Freeway near Fruitvale Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Volt and a Chevrolet Trailblazer collided for unknown reasons. The SUV then caught fire, with flames spreading to a nearby vegetation.
 
As a result, the woman driving the Chevrolet Volt suffered fatal injuries and died at the hospital. She was 44 years old.
 
Fire crews were able to free the female driver of the burning Trailblazer. That driver was badly injured. Her condition was not immediately available.
 
No other occupants in each vehicle.
 
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone with further information is asked to call the Oakland CHP office at 510-457-2875 and ask for Officer Arreola.
