Two Killed, Josie Stijepovic Injured in Head-On Accident on Highway 247 [Landers, CA]

Head-On Crash on Highway 247 in Landers Kills Two People and Badly Injures One

 
LANDERS, CA (November 21, 2023) – Two people died in a head-on accident on Highway 247 in Landers Monday morning on November 20.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:35 a.m. just north of Olivine Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 39-year-old Josie Stijepovic of Helendale was driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee south on Old Woman Springs Road north of Olivine Road. She then began passing a vehicle over double-yellow lines within the northbound lane and slammed head-on into a 2017 Kia Optima that was heading north on Old Woman Springs Road.
 
As a result of the crash, the 33-year-old female passenger of the Kia died at the scene. The driver of the Kia, 36-year-old man, later died at Hi-Desert Medical Center. Both were Twentynine Palms residents.
 
Stijepovic suffered major injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.
 
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be contributing factors of the crash, which is still under investigation.
