Driver Dies after Colliding Head-On with Semi Truck in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (October 12, 2023) – Silverio Arturo Vasquez Jr. was killed in a head-on accident in Long Beach Wednesday afternoon on October 11.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:00 p.m. at Anaheim Street and West Ninth Street. According to the Long Beach Police Department, Vasquez was driving a 2009 Lexus ES350 northbound on West Ninth Street just south of Anaheim Street.
 
At the same time, a 2014 Volvo semi truck was driving southbound in the intersection of Ninth Street and Anaheim Street.
 
For unknown reasons, the Lexus made an unsafe turn to westbound Anaheim Street and collided head-on with the semi truck.
 
The impact caused fatal injuries on Vasquez and he died at the scene. He was a 64-year-old Long Beach resident, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
 
The truck driver, a 30-year-old Santa Ana resident, stayed on scene and cooperated with police.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in crash, which is still under investigation.
