Fatal Amtrak Train Accident near 680 Freeway and 80 Freeway in Fairfield

 
FAIRFIELD, CA (October 4, 2022) – A Vallejo man driving a pickup truck died in a train accident near 680 Freeway on Sunday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on October 2 at about 2:05 p.m. A pickup truck reportedly attempted to back out of a residence on a dirt road.
 
Then, an Amtrak train crashed into the truck near the junction of 80 Freeway and Highway 12. The impact of the collision split the pickup truck in half.
 
Emergency crews pronounced the pickup truck driver, described as a man in his 50s, dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
No other injuries were reported.
 
CHP and Amtrak continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
