Bicyclist Dies after Struck by DUI Hit-and-Run Driver in Clovis

 
CLOVIS, CA (June 2, 2023) – Peter Binz was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash in Clovis Wednesday evening on May 31.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Locan Avenue and Herndon Avenue. According to the CHP, Binz was riding his bicycle westbound on Herndon Avenue when a Dodge pickup truck struck him.
 
Binz was ejected from his bike and died at the scene. He was a 33-year-old Clovis resident, according to the Fresno County Sheriff”s Office.
 
The driver of the pickup, 36-year-old Jonathan Petty, fled to his nearby residence. But when he got home, a resident called 911 to turn him in.
 
Police determined that Petty was three times over the legal limit of alcohol. They arrested and booked him into the Fresno County Jail for DUI and felony hit and run.
 
Court records show he has a previous DUI conviction in August of 2022.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
