Fatal Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway in San Ysidro Involves Several Vehicles

 
SAN YSIDRO, CA (December 20, 2023) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by multiple vehicles on 5 Freeway near the San Ysidro Port of Entry early Tuesday morning on December 19.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:12 a.m. just south of Dairy Mart Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was walking across traffic lanes on northbound 5 Freeway when a Mitsubishi Endeavor struck them.
 
After the initial crash, 75-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi from Tijuana immediately stopped and called the authorities.
 
Before officers arrived on scene, several additional cars also struck the pedestrian.
 
The pedestrian, only identified as an adult male, died at the scene.
 
The Mitsubishi driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
CHP San Diego area is handling the investigation. They asked witnesses to call them at 858-293-6000.
