Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicles on Union Avenue in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 19, 2023) — A pedestrian was hit and killed by at least one car on Union Avenue near Garden Drive.
 
According to a California Highway Patrol traffic incident log, the deadly pedestrian accident happened around 6:00 a.m. Monday. Under unclear circumstances, a 50-year-old pedestrian tried crossing from east to west on Union Avenue. However, an oncoming Toyota Corolla struck him in the No. 1 traffic lane.
 
Soon after the accident, paramedics arrived and confirmed the pedestrian deceased on arrival. Authorities described him only as a Hispanic male.
 
As for the driver, he or she pulled over and cooperated with police investigators. Authorities learned that another car, described as a dark-colored sedan, struck the pedestrian but fled after the crash.
 
Authorities do not suspect impairment to have played a part in the incident, but the crash remains under investigation.
