HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (September 19, 2023) — Ashley Hipol suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Highway 101 near Palmer Boulevard.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the hit-and-run happened on September 12 around 5:57 a.m. Under unclear circumstances, 27-year-old Hipol was either walking or lying down when an oncoming vehicle struck her.
 
Subsequently, the driver of the unknown model fled the scene of the accident, leaving the Fortuna woman with major wounds. Soon after, paramedics took her to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.
 
At this time, authorities do not know if the driver was aware that he or she had run over a person. However, an investigation should reveal more details, including the cause and events leading to the crash.
