Fatal Pedestrian Accident on 680 Freeway in Martinez

 
MARTINEZ, CA (September 28, 2021) – One person was killed in a pedestrian accident on 680 Freeway in Martinez Sunday evening.
 
The accident happened around 7:50 p.m. on September 26, in the southbound lanes of the freeway just north of the Marina Vista Avenue exit. According to the CHP, the pedestrian was in the roadway when a white Toyota sedan struck them.
 
As a result, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once family members are notified.
 
The driver of the Toyota remained on scene and was cooperative. He told authorities that he was unable to avoid the collision.
 
Crews raised a SigAlert in the area, closing all southbound lanes and backing up Benicia Bridge traffic.
