SAN PABLO, CA (September 28, 2021) – A passenger suffered a fatal heart attack after a three-car accident on 80 Freeway in San Pablo early Monday morning.
 
The accident happened around 4:50 a.m. on September 27, at the El Portal Drive exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota RAV4 SUV, a Honda Civic and a Toyota Corolla collided for unknown reasons. The impact caused the Toyota SUV to overturn. The Honda ran into it, as did the Toyota Corolla.
 
The male passenger in the SUV went into a cardiac arrest at the scene. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died. He was 50 years old. His identity will be released once his next of kin is properly notified.
 
Meanwhile, the driver and two other passengers in the SUV suffered major injuries and were transported to a trauma center.
 
CHP officials said drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
