Moped Rider Suffers Injuries after Struck by Hit-and-Run Car in Los Angeles

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 27, 2022) – Miguel Velazquez suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, August 14.
 
The accident happened around 12:35 a.m. on 3rd Street at Flower Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 20-year-old victim had just gotten off work and was stopped at a red light at the intersection. A blue Mini Cooper approached at high speeds and slammed into the back of his moped.
 
Velazquez launched into the air after the impact. He suffered serious injuries, including a broken wrist, a fractured wrist and a bruised tailbone. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mini Cooper did not stop to render aid.
 
Police described the driver of the Mini Cooper as a man in his 40s, possibly Hispanic or Indian, with dark hair. They said the vehicle has a panoramic sunroof and likely front-end damage.
 
Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. They urged anyone with information to contact LAPD Central Traffic Detectives at 213-833-3713.
 
Velazquez’s loved ones set up a GoFundMe page for his medical bills.
