57-Year-Old San Bernardino Man Dies in Late Evening Hit-and-Run Crash on South Pepper Avenue

 
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (March 14, 2022)Martin Villegas died in a hit-and-run crash in San Bernardino, late Tuesday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:05 p.m. on March 8 in the area of South Pepper Avenue. According to the San Bernardino Police Department, a red Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. At the same time, Villegas was driving a maroon Toyota Corolla in the same direction.
 
The Challenger struck the rear of the Corolla, causing the Corolla to slam into a streetlight.
 
After the crash, the driver of the Challenger fled the scene on foot and was not located.
 
Villegas, a 57-year-old San Bernardino resident, suffered critical injuries. Arriving units rushed him to a local hospital, where he later died.
 
Police said excessive speed was a factor, but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol also played a role. They urged anyone with information to contact Detective Dan Acosta or Sergeant Jeff Harvey at (909) 384-5792.
