Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Multiple Vehicles on 5 Freeway in Carmel Valley

 
CARMEL VALLEY, CA (September 13, 2021) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in Carmel Valley early Thursday morning.
 
The accident happened around 12:15 a.m. on September 9, just south of Highway 56. According to the California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was walking in the area when multiple vehicles struck him.
 
Witnesses told CHP dispatchers that the man was in a spot where he was difficult to see and hard to avoid.
 
First responders found the man lying in the roadway and pronounced him dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
Crews closed three right lanes of the freeway during the initial investigation, leaving only the fast lane and carpool lanes open. All lanes reopened roughly around 3:40 a.m.
 
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in the accident. Further investigation is underway.
