Morning Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 99 at Ashlan Avenue Kills Clovis Man

 
FRESNO, CA (August 15, 2021) – A man was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 99 in Fresno on Saturday morning.
 
The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. on August 14, at the intersection with Ashlan Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a fully marked and lighted Caltrans crews were street sweeping the center median while accompanied by a patrol vehicle.
 
For unknown reasons, a Honda Civic slammed into the back of the Caltrans truck. The impact caused the Caltrans truck to spin into a big rig, which then hit an empty school bus.
 
First responders found one male occupant in the Civic with major injuries. They rushed him to Community Regional Medical Center, where the patient later died.
 
Authorities only described the victim as a 32-year-old Clovis resident. They will release his name once family members are properly notified.
 
Meanwhile, a Caltrans employee was taken to the hospital for minor injuries to the neck, back and shoulders.
 
The crash shut down the southbound lanes of Highway 99 from Ashlan Avenue to Herndon Avenue.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
