Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident at Bancroft Avenue and Church Street [Oakland, CA]

Motorist Dies after Struck by Another Car that Runs Through Red Light on Bancroft Avenue in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (January 2, 2022) – A man was killed in a multi-vehicle accident at Bancroft Avenue and Church Street in Oakland Friday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 4:42 p.m. on December 31. According to the Oakland Police Department, the 21-year-old Tracy man was driving a Chrysler 200 northbound on Church Street. At the same time, a 32-year-old Oakland man was driving a Dodge Caravan eastbound on Bancroft Avenue at a high rate of speed.
 
The driver of the Dodge then ran through a red light at the intersection and broadsided the Chrysler. The impact caused the Chrysler to hit a Jeep Compass that was going westbound on Bancroft.
 
First responders pronounced the driver of the Chrysler dead at the scene.
 
Police said victim, who was not yet identified, worked in the area and was coming back from a lunch break.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the van was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Police later arrested him after a gun was found in his vehicle.
 
The Jeep driver, a 66-year-old Patterson woman who lives in Patterson, was also in stable condition.
