Man Dies in Crash on 280 Freeway in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA (August 2, 2021) — A man was killed in an accident on the 280 Freeway near 4th Street early Sunday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident first began around 2:20 a.m. As the driver of a 1972 Chevy Impala entered the on-ramp to the 280 Freeway, an oncoming Toyota Prius crashed into the vehicle. As a result of the collision, both drivers pulled over to the far-left lane and exited their cars.

Soon after, a 2008 BMW 328i, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the two stopped vehicles. As a result, a chain reaction occurred, pushing the driver of the Chevy off of the elevated highway. Tragically, the 40-year-old man died in the accident and police have not yet released his name.

Following the crash, paramedics tended to the 24-year-old driver of the BMW and his 24-year-old male passenger, both of whom required care at Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

At this time, authorities factored in DUI as a possible source of the accidents. Although, those with information should contact the CHP.
