Jonathan Hernandez Arrested, One Killed after Police Pursuit Crash in San Leandro

 
SAN LEANDRO, CA (October 19, 2022) — Officials arrested hit-and-run suspect 23-year-old Jonathan Hernandez of Oakland in a pursuit crash on Monday, October 17
 
According to Oakland police, Hernandez was wanted after a hit-and-run crash on Friday near 73rd Avenue and International Boulevard. Hernandez threatened the other driver with a gun before he drove away.
 
At around 7:00 a.m., police had a warrant for his arrest. Then they saw him in the same suspect vehicle.
 
Officers tried a traffic stop. However, Hernandez fled ensuing the police chase. During the pursuit, Hernandez crashed into a pickup truck on the 6900 block of San Leandro Boulevard. The impact killed the other driver whose identity was not immediately available.
 
Police said Hernandez did not sustain any major injury. Officers arrested him. They also found a firearm inside his vehicle.
 
Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong said the case is pending review by Alameda County prosecutors.
