Jaime Alvarez Killed in Hit-and-Run on Florida Avenue [Hemet, CA]

66-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by 2 Hit-and-Run Drivers in Hemet

 
HEMET, CA (June 6, 2022) – Jaime Martinez Alvarez was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Hemet on Wednesday evening, June 1.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:25 p.m. on Florida Avenue, just east of San Jacinto Street. According to the Hemet Police Department, the victim was in a liquor store parking lot when he began walking in a northeasterly direction, initially crossing eastbound lanes of Florida.
 
Despite oncoming traffic, Alvarez made it across the eastbound side of the corridor and continued walking into westbound lanes, where there is no marked crosswalk. A vehicle traveling westbound on Florida then struck him.
 
After hitting Alvarez, the driver of the vehicle stopped briefly and then drove away. A second vehicle may have also hit the victim and also did not stop.
 
Alvarez died at the scene. He was a 66-year-old Hemet resident, police said.
 
Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the pedestrian. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role with either of the drivers.
 
Police described the first vehicle as a late-model sedan, but no information was available regarding the other car.
