At Least 1 Hurt in 5-Vehicle Crash on 880 Freeway in Oakland

OAKLAND, CA (March 20, 2024) — At least one person suffered an injury in a 5-car accident on the 880 Freeway near 23rd Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-car crash happened around 3:22 p.m. Friday. Under unclear circumstances, five vehicles crashed, including one driver who left the scene.

Soon after, authorities arrived to find an SUV wedged between a big rig and the center divider. In addition, authorities said two juveniles were in one of the vehicles.

Following the collision, paramedics assisted at least one person with unknown injuries. Meanwhile, authorities issued a SigAlert for the No. 1 and 2 lanes until 5:30 p.m.

At the time of the report, officers did not say what caused the crash. However, an investigation should confirm the details.

Preventing car accidents can be easy when you know what to do. It may be obvious to pay attention, but many drivers do not. Avoid taking advantage of what you know, and be alert. Collisions on highways occur when drivers follow too closely to one another. Leave enough room for danger.
