Pickup Truck Rans Red Light and Crashes into Another Vehicle in Winchester Killing 1 and Injuring 3
WINCHESTER, CA (June 4, 2023) – Giovanna Rizzo died in a two-vehicle in Winchester Thursday evening on June 1.
The fatal accident happened around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Winchester Road and Keller Road. According to the CHP, a black GMC Sierra ran a red light and then slammed into the side of a white Nissan Titan carrying three high schoolers. The Sierra then rolled over before coming to rest.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced Rizzo dead at the scene.
Rizzo was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Nissan. She was a 17-year-old Murrieta resident.
The 18-year-old man driving the Nissan was seriously injured. He was the boyfriend of Rizzo. The teenage girl sitting in the backseat, Rizzo’s sister, also sustained serious injuries. The three teens were on their way home from graduation when the crash occurred.
The driver of the GMC, a 30-year-old man, suffered major life-threatening injuries.
Paramedics transported all three injured patients to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment.
There is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. The driver of the GMC may have just ignored the light completely, deputies said.
Anyone with further information was asked to contact the CHP’s Temecula office at 951-506-2000.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Giovanna Rizzo.
