Tijuana Man Dies after Drunk Driver Crashes into His Car on 805 Freeway in San Ysidro

 
SAN YSIDRO, CA (September 13, 2023) – Enrique Valerio Lopez died in a DUI crash in San Ysidro Sunday morning on September 10.
 
The fatal crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on 805 Freeway near the 905 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, Lopez was driving a Honda SUV northbound on 805 Freeway when a speeding Volkswagen coupe rear-ended his car.
 
The impact sent the Honda veering out of control off the roadway. The Volkswagen crashed into a center-divider barrier.
 
Lopez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 58-year-old Tijuana resident, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
The Volkswagen driver, a 21-year-old Escondido resident, was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
